Ancient European Practices
Gauls & Romans are among many modern Europeans' ancestry (including the queen of everything who is writing this). As such, here are a few ancient cues to evolve into your modern practice. Romans were more of a full cycle Basil worshipper whereas, the Gauls primarily performed their basil rituals with the harvest (just as its flowering for them, whenever we want fresh basil for us).
Step 1: Sow the seeds while uttering swear words and insults (Roman tradition).
Step 2: Wash the hand with which you intend to harvest - must be washed 3 times in 3 freshwater streams (Gaul tradition).
Step 3: Get your clean clothes on and keep away from negative energies (Gaul tradition).
Step 4: Cut the plant with something other than metal (both of Gaul & Roman tradition).
Protecting Your Sanctuary
Wherever your safe place may be, the next time you protect that space with magic, try infusing basil into your ritual. All forms of basil (essential oil, dried, fresh, incense, etc.) contain protective properties, so guard the fortress with your kingly plant.
*Tulsi Basils & Hindu Uses
Basil is an ancient herb and there are multiple variations within the genus ocimum. In Hindu tradition, the basil referred to is Tulsi Basil or Holy Basil which scientifically called ocimum tenuiflorum.
Tulsi Basil is believed to be an avatar of Lakshmi (also wife/divine power of Vishnu), a goddess of wealth, spiritual awakening, and abundance.
In Hinduism, it is considered a sacred ritual to care for one's basil plant.

WARNING: Talk to your Doctor/Medical Professional before adding any Supplements, herbal teas, Infusions, etc.
Part of the reason that we list Medical Jargin is because many plants can interfere with or even counteract medications we already take or it can exacerbate ailments we already have.
When talking to your Medical Professional, we suggest asking what "actions" an herb might do to interfere with your health, either positive of negative. For example, if you suffer from heartburn, a Cholagogue which creates more bile may not be advantagous. Too much of a good thing, eh?
